DIY: Pinterest-worthy blogging for FREE with apps on your phone (for new bloggers)

So, you started a blog! Congrats!

Now you have to fill this little blog of yours with content. And photos. And pinterest images. And track the progress of the posts. And find out who’s reading them. You have to start somewhere… but WHERE DO YOU START?!?!?!

I was right where you are. And I had another problem…. no internet to run all the fancy editing programs I needed to create this magical content.

Let me explain… I live waaaaaaay out in the country, and we don’t have internet for our home. WHAT?!?! I know. crazy. But it WORKS and we don’t miss it. Frankly, it’s nice to be unplugged from streaming. I do have a very limited amount of satellite internet time that is left over from when I ran my tax practice at home, but it’s only available on my work computer.

So! How do I run this blog, you ask? FROM MY PHONE! In fact, I run most of my #sidehustle from my phone, too. (I have unlimited data with Cricket. If you want a cheaper option for your phone plan, you really should check them out!)

Many of the apps I use are actually for instagram, but they are so useful in blogging if you know how to use them.

I have an iphone 7, and all of these apps are FREE if you can deal with a little advertising. Which, I don’t mind cause… duh. it’s FREE!

So here are my top apps for phone-based beginning bloggers.

Layout

Pretty much everyone has this app. I love it for before and afters! This would work with any beauty post, a room makeover, furniture painting, the sky is the limit! I usually combine the 2 images I want to compare in Layout, save the image onto my phone, then import it into preview to add arrows or text

Preview

This app is primarily used for Instagram. BUT did you know it has powerful editing tools for photos? You can add borders, text, fonts, stickers, and sooooo much more. And you have the option to save your edited photo in your camera roll. BOOM!

PicMonkey

With PicMonkey, collage is king. If you want to make a product roundup, design board, shopping ideas list, or even a post about apps you should use to run a blog for free (wink wink!) this is the app for you! Add photos from your phone, arrange, add text, save! So easy, and it looks so incredibly professional.

Mailchimp

If you are building an email list, my FAV app to use is Mailchimp. (Were you prompted to join my list when you came to this site with a pop-up form? that’s an option from Mailchimp!) It’s so easy to set up campaigns while you’re sitting in the car waiting for your grocery pick-up order to arrive, or for your toddler to get out of time out (#itme). A quick pinterest search will give you an abundance of tutorials to follow to set up your email lists and automatic replies. And I wouldn’t be a very good email list advocate if I didn’t ask you to JOIN MY LIST!!!

Google Analytics

If you are a nerd (like me! I love nerds) and you are curious about keywords, SEO, popular content on your blog, NOT popular content on your blog, click rates, time spent on each page by user… if you’re still reading you probably are! Download google analytics and get your site verified. I promise you, it will help you figure out the things that you landing, and the things that are flying away in the wind… and if you know more information about how your readers are reacting - you won’t waste time writing content they don’t care about! YAY

I hope these apps will help you start blogging TODAY easily and professionally! What other apps do you love?

Until next time,
